8-6

The O's won again tonight, and picked up a big series win vs. the Angels. Read on...

For the first time in the series, the O's took the early lead. Newhan started the inning with a single, and stole second(but was injured on the play, update in "Game notes"). Then, with 2 outs, Miggy dropped a bomb, driving a home run to right center field. 2-0 O's.

In the 2nd inning the O's continued their offensive attack, when Javy Lopez doubled down the right field line. Corey Patterson utilized his speed(for the first time in forever) by beating out a grounder that was bobbled only the slightest, and reached second on a steal. With 2 outs, the O's continued their hot clutch hitting with a Brian Roberts double, scoring 2 and making the score 4-0 O's.

Fast foward to the 7th inning, when the Angels had something going with back to back single. A swinging bunt advanced the runners, and a K gave hope that the O's could get out of the game with out giving up any runs, but that hope was immediately crushed when a passed ball gave the Angels their first run. Daniel got out of the jam after that belish, and here is his line:
7 IP, 0 ER, 5 hits, 1 BB, 6 K's. SEND HIM TO OTTAWA. :-)

The 7th inning was also Jeff Weaver's last, and after the first 2 innings he really settled down.
7 IP, 2 ER, 5 hits, 1 BB, 4 K's.

Hawkins came in to pitch the 8th, and the Angels continued to give him trouble. After a fly out, Orlando Cabrera doubled and was advanced to third by a Vlad ground out. A clutch single by Garret Anderson brought the Angels within 2, and made the wiggle room for Chris Ray that much less.

But since when does Chris Ray need any wiggle room? Ray breezed through the 9th inning, and picked up the O's 8th win of the season. It's good to have a little mo going into the Cleveland series, and we are now 3-1 in this tough 10 game span(4 vs. LAA, 3 vs. Cle, 3 @ NYY).

Game notes
-The O's took 3 of 4 from the Angels, and it's good to see that we can play with the big boys(I was a little worried after the Boston series).

-D-Cab evened his record at 1-1 tonight, and he frankly pitched a gem. He topped out around 97, and used his breaking pitch well.

-Chris Ray has been my favorite Oriole since he was called up(for personal reasons), but I have a feeling he would be anyway with how h'es been pitching. He has 5 saves, and in 6 1/3 IP, he has given up 0 runs, 1 BB, 2 hits, and has recorded 7 K's. His walk tonight was his first and only of the season.

-The O's had another unfortunate attendance number tonight, at 15,691. Hopefully the first place and on-fire indians will bring the attendance up a little bit. I'll be at Weds. and Thurs. games, and wil hopefully be blogging from the hotel.

-To the Newhan injury. The O's got the unfortunate news tonight that David Newhan broke his right fibula, and will probably be placed on the DL. Perlazzo just said on Baseball Tonight that Newhan would have an operation on Thursday. Roch's blog, when talking about possible replacements, said Val Majewski is a strong possibility. He also rules out Fiorentino due to a recent ankle injury.

-Another Roch entry says that Tim Byrdak is going to undergo a CT scan. Would explain his struggles of late...

Tomorrow night the indians come to town, and it's the former Oriole(Jason Johnson), versus the current Oriole(Bruce Chen). Game time is 7:05.

Go O's!
