7-6

The O's 3 game win streak was brought to a stop today, and here's how it went down...

For the third straight game, tthe Angels got out to an eraly lead. After Kris Benson retired the first 2 batters, Vlad Guerrero crushed a home run to left center, giving the Angels a 1-0 lead.

In te bottom of the second the O's had an answer. After a Miggy single, Javy drove a ball to deep left center, and Darin Erstad went up to bring it down. After several seconds with no call, Miggy thought he ball was caught and retreated to first and javy passed him in the process. Seconds later the umps decided to announce that it was a home run and Javy was out. The umps dropped the ball on this one, no pun intended. Still, though, 1-1.

The next inning, the Angels had first and third when Chone Figgins attempted a steal. He got caught in a pickle, and Izturis dashed for home. Conine threw home and Izturis was safe, and Figgins advanced to second. With 2 outs Vlad blooped one to left, but David Newhan made a nice diving catch to save a run. 2-1 Angels.

The next inning the Angels had something cooking again, but Newhan dove and made his second web gem of the day. He really held his own today.

Benson kept letting people on base, and it came back to haunt him in the 5th inning. Back to back doubles made the score 3-1, and a broken bat Vlad bloop single gave the Angels a 3-run lead. That was the end of Benson's day, and here is his line:
5 IP, 9 hits, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. The line looks alot worse than he pitched, as the Angels got a bazzillion bloop hits.

The O's tried to peck back into the game, with a Jeff Conine home run to right center, but 2 innings later Sendy Rleal(in his second inning of work) gave that run back by giving up a home run to Vlad(his second of the game).

The Angels really broke it open in the 8th inning, when they scored 4 runs off Tim Byrdak, highlighted by a 3-run shot by Chone Figgins.

One bright spot today was Chris Britton, who pitched well in his second appearence of the season, going 1-2-3 in the 9th. He has been perfect this season.

The O's picked up another run in the 9th off Francisco Rodrgiues on a Gibby single plating Melvin Mora, but that was all they could muster, and the final was 9-3.

Hopefully Daniel can pick up a W tomorrow(at 7 vs. Weaver), but I'm not counting on it. Expect a split.

Game notes:David Newhan had 2 diving catches today, and he probably saved 3 runs...Melvin has a 6-game hit streak going...Nick markakis has hit in 9 of the 10 games he's played in this year, but he has yet to get a multi-hit game...Benson was pulled after only throwing slightly over 80 pitches. I guess Perlazzo thought the game would get out of hand if Benson pitched the 6th...Benson picked up a loss today, going to 1-2. Lackey got the win and he is 2-1...The Red Sox winning today puts the O's 1 1/2 back on them, and either tied with TB for second(If Toronto loses), or tied for 3rd(If Toronto wins). The Jays are down in the bottom of the 5th to the White Sox right now, in the middle of a rain delay.

Go O's.
