Finally! The O's are in the win column! Here is my happy recap...

The O's started the game with a bang. Whether it was because they finally got to face a RHP or because it was a rookie on the mound I don't know, but it was nice to take an early lead for KB. With one out Melvin walked, and that was followed by a Miggy single. The supposed control-master, Casey Janssen, probably had a case of the jitters because he hit the next batter, loading the bases. Ramon Hernandez then, grounded the ball right of the firstbaseman, and he came home with the ball. The throw was off and got past Greg Zaun, scoring 2 runs. 2-zip O's after one.

The second inning the O's extended the lead, and Janssen started to look vulnerable. He started the inning walking Corey Patterson(Yes, Corey Patterson walked!) and Patterson followed that up by stealing second. Conine helped out by advancing CP to third. Nick Markakis then was hit(Janssen's second HBP of the game), and reached second on a passed ball. A Brian Roberts single brought home Patterson, and making the score 3-0. A Melvin pop out, and a Tejada grounder to the mound ended the inning. That 4th run would have been nice...

And this is why. In the bottom of the 2nd, Kris Benson started struggling. After a walk to Troy Glaus, Shea Hillenbrand singled to center and advanced to 2nd on a throw to third. That was followed by a Zaun single, and an Adams sac fly, making the score 3-2 Orioles.

In the bottom of the 4th Benson got into a jam. He loaded the bases with one out, and up came Russ Adams. After a long AB and several pitches, Kris won the battle, getting a K. The next batter, McDonald, got off to a 2-0 start, but Kris sapped any hope away by throwing back to back strikes and then forcing Benson to ground out to the mound. Nice piece of pitching by Kris. 3-2 O's after 4.

4 innings was all the rookie Casey Janssen:
4 IP, 2 ER, 3 hits, 3 BB, 0 K. Not terrible for his ML debut.

In the top of the 7th the O's got some insurance. B-Rob started off the inning with a double, and got to third on a pick-off throw that flew into center field. An infield single by Melvin made it 2 on with no outs, and a Miggy ground out advanced Melvin to second and scored B-Rob, 4-2 O's. A Gibbons single adavanced Melvin to third, and Ramon doubled over Vernon Well's head, making the score 5-2 and seemingly breaking the game open. If that didn't break the game open, then the next AB did. Corey Patterson blooped one to center field, and the ball hit off Vernon Well's bare hand, giving Corey 2nd base, and making the score 7-2 O's.

Benson went 1-2-3 in the 7th, and that was his final inning.
7 IP, 2 ER, 3 hits, 3 BB, 4 K's. Great game for Kris. He was really in control all night, and even retired 11 in a row at one point. He had one bad inning(the 2nd), but after that he really settled down and pitched a gem of a game. One thing that I like about his line is that he pitched 7 innings and only let 6 batters reach base. The Jays 1-5 hitters were 1-17 tonight, which really shows his dominance IMO. Nice game, Kris.

Another Chris came in to pitch the 9th, and not too well. Hillenbrand almost took him out, but instead it hit high off the wall for a double. A passed ball and a walk made it first and third with no outs. He looked rusty, but a 3 pitch K showed no more signs of it, giving the O's out #1. A walk loaded the bases, and Chris was really in trouble(By the way, some guy in the crowd was blowing an air-horn after every pitch. Go watch a hockey game, ya hoser). Another walk came, making the possible 7th run at the plate. 7-3. An Alex Rios sac fly gave the O's a second out, but also made the score 7-4. Vernon Wells then singled, making the score 7-5 with the 7th run on base and Troy Glaus up. After a few pitches, Glaus grounded to Melvin who threw to 2nd to end the game.

Wow, more exciting than I thought it would be, especially with Ray in. Who would have thought he'd give up 3 runs with a 5- run cushion? Hmm, caught me by suprise.

Game notes:
-3 hit streaks were extended today. Miguel Tejada's 12 gamer, and Brian Robert's 9 gamer. And for the Jays, Vernon Wells now has a 7-game streak.

-Shea Hillenbrand made 3 bad plays in the field today, and looks to me like a liability in the field. I wouldn't be shocked to see Glaus moved over.

-The O's had 4 batters get 2 hits or more. They were Corey Patterson(3 hits), Brian Roberts, Miguel Tejada and Melvin Mora. I'm really liking Roberts-Mora-Tejada 1-2-3. Brian is now hitting .333, Miguel is hitting .424(He went 2/5 and his average went down:-O)

-Corey Patterson had a game. Not only did he draw his first walk of the year, but he also doubled, singled to right, and picked up a bunt single. Not only that, but he also stole 2 bases.

-About the steals. The O's are still perfect when it comes to them, and Corey Patterson's 2 makes us 18/18.

-Before his RBI double in the 7th inning, Ramon Hernandez was 0 for his last 14 AB's. This is the night of bad streaks broken...

-Kris Benson really settled in late it the game, and at one point retired 11 straight batters.

-Kris Benson got the win today, and Janssen pick up the L. Janssen is obviously 0-1, and Benson is 3-2.

-My guy Chris Ray pitched for the first time since the Yankee game on Friday. Well, I guess you could call it pitching if you want, but I centantly wouldn't. He gave up 3 runs, which will definitely shoot up his ERA, but I guess that all that matters is the W. Way to make it exciting, Chris. BTW-Here's his line:
1 IP, 3 ER, 2 hits, 3 BB, 1 K, 34 pitches.
The pitches is the worst part for me. Hopefully we can win easily tomorrow:-)

-The O's not only gain a game on the Blue Jays, but also on the Red Sox. They got crushed by the Indians tonight, and most importantly Josh Beckett got shelled. The Yankees won, though, so they are still ahead of us.

-This was a much needed win. Not only does it break the 4-game slide, but it gives us some Mo for the Seattle series.

Next series:vs. Mariners. The M's are at a huge adavantage pitching-wise, as they don't have to face Bedard or Benson. Should be fun either way.

Tomorrow:Meche vs. Cabrera.
O's vs. Meche
He OWNS Miggy.
Mariners vs. Cabrera
Not many AB's, but not looking too good either way.

Go O's!
