The O's dropped another one today, and are starting to show they can't hang with the big boys of the East...

Today the game accually got off to a good start. B-Rob singled, stole second, and got to third on a balk. 2 batters later, Jay Gibbons(who hit clean-up tonight), knocked him home, gvining the O's a 1-0 lead.

The Jays responded in the second, scoring firdt on an error(Tejada threw it past Bedard on a 3-6-1 DP attempt. A double, a passed ball, and a fielders choice scored 2 more runs, giving the Jays a 3-1 lead thru 2.

The O's offense finally showed signs of life(outside of 2 or 3 batters)with a Jeff Conine line-drive shot home run to left-center. 3-2 Jays.

In the 6th inning, the Jays broke it open. Alex Rios knocked a 2-run jack off of Bedard, and that was his last batter. Here's his line:
5 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 10 hits, 2 BB, 1 K. The line looks bad, but he didn't pitch THAT badly.
Then Sendy Rleal came in, and he didn't do much better. He gave up another homer to Vernon Wells, making the score 6-2, and the game out of reach.

Wells homered again in the 8th off Eddy Rodriguez, making the final score 8-2.

Tough game, and we're back at .500. Bensonvs. TBA tomorrow, and we REALLY need this game.

Game notes:
-Miguel Tejada got a hit in the 8th inning today, extending his hit streak to 11 games.

-Vernon Wells hit 2 home runs today, his 8th and 9th.

-Erik Bedard, who picked up the loss, is still at an impressive 4-1. Ted Lilly improved to 2-1. Here is Lilly's line:
5 IP, 2 ER, 6 hits, 2 BB, 3 K's.

-The O's loss doesn't push them back anymore from first, as the Red Sox lost 7-1 to the Indians. 2.5 back going into the game tomorrow.(Note:The D'Rays are leading the Yankees in the 10th inning, but it ain't over til it's over)

-Mike Flanagan talked during the broadcast today, and said Todd Williams would likely come back on Saturday. When asked about Melvin's contract, he declined comment, but the way he said it made it seem like a deal was done.

-The O's saw BJ Ryan for the first time since he left the team, and he set them down 1-2-3. Javy gave him a run for his money, though...

Benson vs. a Rook (that hasn't been announced yet) tomorrow. Rogers Centre, 7:07. It will be good to not have a lefty/a pitcher who sucks, because the Blue Jays kill pitchers in those categories.

Jays vs. Benson.
Not many AB's which was be expected because he pitched in the NL until now

Go O's!
